Help Your House Sell Faster

As one of the best moving companies in the Bay Area, we often team up with other great service providers. The ‘Home Staging” industry is pretty closely related to movers. I decided to dig in to learn a little more about staging and here is my initial findings.

Sometimes the question my come up  as to why should you stage your home? I found some interesting answers to that exact question.

You want [potential buyers] to have an emotional reaction right when they walk in, and you don’t want to be penny wise and pound foolish. [Staging] is a marketing tool that has been proven to work. While selling a home can be an “emotional” process, the moment you decide to list it, you have start “de-personalizing” and view it as a “product”.

In case you were wondering some of the biggest mistakes that homeowners make when staging?  I came Jenn Andrlik says:

When people become attached to something and they refuse to change it or take it down. The second mistake is when [homeowners] stop at a certain  point. We’ve done the first floor and the master, but then the other rooms are completely dated. If you can help it, don’t have a half-staged house.

Many agents swear by the power of staging, claiming it’s the best way to get top dollar as quickly as possible. The practice, once reserved mainly for homes that lingered on the market, has now become more commonplace — even though it’s a seller’s market — as first impressions have become ever critical in whether homes draw crowds and inspire bidding wars, brokers say.

Many firms are now adding in-house staging services, since not only do sellers make out better when their homes command higher prices, but the brokers do, too.

The art of home staging has gained much popularity since its beginning in the mid 1970s, thanks in part to the various HGTV shows over recent years. There are still, however, many misconceptions today about home staging. Many home owners think staging is about cleaning up and de-cluttering.  Marian Jacobsen suggest: One of the first and important steps in getting a home ready for market is to thoroughly clean and de-clutter, but this in itself is not staging. Most buyers cannot look past a homeowner’s personal belongings and clutter to see the potential in a home. It is a good idea to get a head start on the moving process by assessing what needs to be organized, packed up, donated or sold. Consult a professional home stager for assistance with a recommended plan of action.
